First Thoughts:

Cutie Pie: This book is confusing to me.

Cutie Pie #2: It was good.

What is this book about?

Cutie Pie: It is about a girl named Julia, who has just moved into a house named "Julia's house for lost creatures".

Cutie Pie #2: Well, this girl moved into a new house by the ocean and she waited a little bit and it was quiet. Then she said "too quiet" so she put up a sign that said "Julia's home for lost creatures". And then, there were tons of monsters and it was getting messy so she made a chore chart for all of the monsters.

What was your favorite part of the story?

Cutie Pie: I didn't really have one.

Cutie Pie #2: I don't have one.

Why did you like it/why don't you have one?

Cutie Pie: Because, I was just really confused about what was going on and why it was happening.

Cutie Pie #2: I liked it all.

Is there anything you didn't like about this book?

Cutie Pie: It just confused me, like what is the purpose of the story other than to entertain. But I found it confusing instead of entertaining.

Cutie Pie #2: No.

Do you like the illustrations?

Cutie Pie: Yes, the illustrations are pretty good.

Cutie Pie #2: Yes, they are good.

Who do you think will like this book?

Cutie Pie: Maybe younger kids.

Cutie Pie #2: Little kids. Anyone.

I checked this book out from the library because the title instantly caught my attention. I love reading stories about different creatures and couldn't wait to read this one with my girls. Julia's House for Lost Creatures is an interesting story. This story is about a girl named Julia, she moves into a new house and quickly realizes that it is just too quiet. So she decides to put out a sign, "Julia's House for Lost Creatures". Soon all kinds of creatures start to show up to stay with Julia. Then with so many creatures in the house, things become a mess. Julia then has to come up with a chore chart to organize the creatures and all the things that need to be done.
I think this story is a good example of showing kids that everyone needs to take responsibility for the mess that they make and how things are better when everyone works together to get things done. Which is what I took from the story. I enjoyed all the different creatures that are in this story. The wonderful illustrations are my favorite part of this book. I didn't fall in love with this story, but  I think it is a good book to use to show younger kids about responsibility, chores, and working together.
