She’s a soldier.
Noemi Vidal is seventeen years old and sworn to protect her planet, Genesis. She’s willing to risk anything—including her own life. To their enemies on Earth, she’s a rebel.
He’s a machine.
Abandoned in space for years, utterly alone, Abel has advanced programming that’s begun to evolve. He wants only to protect his creator, and to be free. To the people of Genesis, he’s an abomination.
Noemi and Abel are enemies in an interstellar war, forced by chance to work together as they embark on a daring journey through the stars. Their efforts would end the fighting for good, but they’re not without sacrifice. The stakes are even higher than either of them first realized, and the more time they spend together, the more they’re forced to question everything they’d been taught was true.

***I received an e-galley of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review***
I have been looking forward to reading Defy the Stars since I found out about it. Then I read all of these wonderful things about it on Goodreads and Twitter and knew I had to read it. Defy the Stars definitely sounded like a "me" book. This is actually my first read book by Claudia Gray. I have been wanting to read some of her other books for a while now, but haven't done so for some reason. But after reading Defy the Stars, I definitely plan to fix this and read the other books I have by Claudia Gray!
I REALLY enjoyed reading Defy the Stars. I recently have been longing to read more and more Science Fiction stories and this one filled that desire. Defy the Stars is a story about a girl, Noemi, who will do anything to protect the planet she lives on. Genesis is a planet where the human inhabitants believe the machines are abominations. Genesis is at war with Earth. During one of her battles she meets Abel, an artificial intelligence that has started to evolve. Noemi and Abel are enemies. But because of the situation, Noemi and Abel must work together and travel to find a way to save Noemi's planet.
Defy the Stars is a very addicting and exciting story. I couldn't get enough. I loved the writing and the characters. Defy the Stars has heart pounding action that kept me on the edge of my seat. There are twists and turns that made me surprised. And so much action! There was pretty much always something happening with Noemi and Abel.
I really enjoyed the world building in this book. The different planets fascinated me. I was also very intrigued by the machines created on earth and how things changed when they were created. I am very interested to find out what else will happen in this universe!
The characters are another thing that I loved about this story. Noemi is a great main character. She is focused and driven. She will do anything and everything to save her planet and the people on it. She is strong and smart. And Abel. I LOVE Abel. He is a completely fascinating character to me. I love his character development as he evolves. I enjoyed their interactions with each other and with the other characters that they come across on the different planets. It was a lot of fun to see some of them turn into friendships.
I also really enjoyed the ending. I like how it didn't end on a huge cliffhanger. Things have a bit of a resolution, but has enough unresolved that leaves me longing to find out what happens next!
