On a momentous visit to the aquarium, Elliot discovers his dream pet: a penguin. It's just proper enough for a straight-laced boy like him. And when he asks his father if he may have one (please and thank you), his father says yes. Elliot should have realized that Dad probably thought he meant a stuffed penguin and not a real one . . . Clever illustrations and a wild surprise ending make this sly, silly tale of friendship and wish fulfillment a kid-pleaser from start to finish.

I picked this one out from the library for us to read because I love penguins and I thought it would be fun to read a story that has a penguin in it. Plus, the title states One Cool Friend. So a penguin and a child being friends, yes please! I am so glad this title and cover caught my eye, we had a lot of fun reading this story! In fact, we loved it!
This story is about a proper young man and his father. One day they go to Family Fun Day at the aquarium. Elliot saw the penguins and knew he wanted one. So he asks his father if he could have a penguin. Thinking Elliot wanted to buy a stuffed penguin from the gift shop, his father says sure and gives Elliot money. Though that isn't what Elliot had in mind. He goes back to the penguin exhibit and gets his penguin to bring home.
One Cool Friend is a wonderful story about friendship. The story is very entertaining, fun,  and silly. It made the girls laugh several times. The illustrations are great, I love how they are simple and detailed. I also love how the speech parts of the story are in speech bubbles.

I highly recommend reading this story. It is a great story to read with elementary school aged children.
