A fun, romantic read, perfect for fans of Sarah Dessen and Susane Colasanti!
Before Matt, Ella had a plan. Get over a no-good ex-boyfriend. Graduate from high school without any more distractions. Move away from Orlando, Florida, where she’s lived her entire life.
But Matt—the cute, shy, bespectacled bass player who just moved to town—was never part of that plan.
And neither was attending a party that was crashed by the cops just minutes after they arrived. Or spending an entire night saying “yes” to every crazy, fun thing they could think of.
Then Matt abruptly left town, and he broke not only Ella’s heart but those of their best friends, too. So when he shows up a year later with a plan of his own—to relive the night that brought them together—Ella isn’t sure whether Matt’s worth a second chance. Or if re-creating the past can help them create a different future.
In alternating then and now chapters, debut author Lauren Gibaldi crafts a charming, romantic story of first loves, lifelong friendships, uncovered secrets, and, ultimately, finding out how to be brave.

***I received an e-galley of this book from the publisher via Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review***
I really enjoyed reading The Night We Said Yes! It was so easy for me to become invested in this story and stay hooked. I read it in one night, I just couldn't stop reading! I needed to know what was going to happen.
The Night We Said Yes is a delightful debut novel full of fun, romance, friendships, and second chances. The characters are wonderful and very entertaining. This story made me laugh and swoon, I loved reading it!
I LOVED the idea of "a night of saying yes"! Especially the shenanigans and fun that a night like that can bring. I also like the idea of it because it can bring out a more adventurous side to someone that is usually super shy and not outgoing.
I really like how the story is set up. We alternate between reading about Now and Then (then being a year ago). I loved seeing how things unfolded in both of these timelines. And I really enjoyed seeing how the relationships and friendships between the characters developed in the Then and how that affected things in the Now. I really didn't have any problem staying captivated by the story with the alternating chapters.
Ella just wants to get through the summer and move away to college. But one night has the chance to change things. While at a party with her best friend, Meg, Ella runs into one of the last faces she thought she'd see again, Matt. One year ago, Matt left town and broke Ella's heart, he also hurt the other best friends that he left behind. Now Matt is back and wants to fix what he broke. Matt tries to recreate the past hoping to fix how Ella and their friends feel about him. But Ella, isn't sure about giving Matt a second chance. Will spending another night of saying yes, change things between them?
There is quite a bit of tension and build-up in this story. There is also a couple surprising moments that I didn't see coming. Parts that kept me dying to know what was going to happen. As well as, a lot of drama between characters. I was definitely able to stay interested through out the story!
I love the amazing characters that are in this story. They each have strengths and flaws. Quirks that make them stand out. And some wonderful friendships/relationships!
One of my favorite things about The Night We Said Yes, is the friendship between Ella and Meg. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it. They have a wonderful dynamic and it was so easy for me to picture them as best friends! I really felt how much they mean to each other and how they are there for one another. I loved getting to see their friendship grow and go through some of the challenges that great close friends go through. I really loved getting to know them as best friends.
I also really loved the whole group of friends. Ella, Meg, Jake, and Barker have all been friends for a long time. It was really great seeing a group of friends that are so close and care so much about each other. They have their issues, but they are all there for each other. Plus, I love the whole girl-guy close friendships without romantic tension!
Ella and Matt. I really enjoy second chance romances/the idea of a second chance. I really enjoyed seeing their relationship develop and bloom during the Then chapters. They are so cute and adorable together. I love how Matt would help challenge Ella to do things that she was hesitant about. I also enjoyed them during the Now chapters, trying to figure out if there was a second chance between them.
My Recommendation:
Read it! I think you will enjoy this book if you like stories that are character driven and have second chances!
I loved reading The Night We Said Yes! I couldn't put the book down. The characters are awesome and I love how close they are. I really enjoyed the nights of saying yes that the characters participated in. The Night We Said Yes is a fun, entertaining story about love, friendship, and second chances.
My Rating:
Wow not really sure I'd be a big fan of this one, but the more I heard about it - the more I think I might reconsider!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed reading it. I read it quickly, I started before I went to bed, and I had to force myself to put it down and go to sleep. But I finished it the next day. If you decide to read it, I hope you will enjoy it as much as I did! :D
