Maguire is bad luck.
No matter how many charms she buys off the internet or good luck rituals she performs each morning, horrible things happen when Maguire is around. Like that time the rollercoaster jumped off its tracks. Or the time the house next door caught on fire. Or that time her brother, father, and uncle were all killed in a car crash—and Maguire walked away with barely a scratch.
It’s safest for Maguire to hide out in her room, where she can cause less damage and avoid meeting new people who she could hurt. But then she meets Jordy, an aspiring tennis star. Jordy is confident, talented, and lucky, and he’s convinced he can help Maguire break her unlucky streak. Maguire knows that the best thing she can do for Jordy is to stay away. But it turns out staying away is harder than she thought.
From author Paula Stokes comes a funny and poignant novel about accepting the past, embracing the future, and learning to make your own luck.

I have been so excited about this book since the first second I found out about it. I LOVE Paula Stokes' writing. I read and loved both The Art of Lainey and Liars, Inc. so I knew Girl Against the Universe was going to be my kind of book. I can easily say that it is one of my most anticipated books for 2016.
I LOVED it! Everything about it. I think Paula Stokes is a wonderful author and I love that she has written another story that made me feel all the emotions and brought me so much happiness.
I also love that while reading I felt so many emotions, but found the story to be light and empowering. It was so easy to fall in love with the story and the characters. I didn't want to put it down. This story is definitely a page-turner!
I love that this is an excellent positive-therapy story. I really think it will be a good example for those that are afraid to seek therapy help because of the way it might seem to others.
Maguire is a wonderful main character. It was so easy to care about her and cheer her on. She has been through so much (stuff that I can't even really imagine having to go through).
I loved all of the relationship developments and interactions in this story. Not only does Girl Against the Universe show personal growth, it also has amazing family relationship growth! The friendships are so realistic and really well written.
Jordy!!! Jordy is all kinds of awesome. I LOVE his character. He is interesting and so sweet. I love the development and interactions between him and Maguire so much. I love that they try to help each other. And the romance situation is one of those slow burns that just makes you smile and happy sigh.
Girl Against the Universe has highs and lows. Brought tears to my eyes (a few times) and also made me smile and laugh. I couldn't put the book down and I didn't want it to end. Girl Against the Universe is my favorite Paula Stokes' book so far (and I did really love the other two)! And it is easily one of my favorite reads for 2016! The story is great and the characters are amazing. The family and romantic relationships as well as, the friendships are well done and awesome. Plus, you might just discover a new book-boyfriend! Girl Against the Universe is a must-read! I highly recommend reading it!
