Every story needs a hero.Every story needs a villain.Every story needs a secret.
Wink is the odd, mysterious neighbor girl, wild red hair and freckles. Poppy is the blond bully and the beautiful, manipulative high school queen bee. Midnight is the sweet, uncertain boy caught between them. Wink. Poppy. Midnight. Two girls. One boy. Three voices that burst onto the page in short, sharp, bewitching chapters, and spiral swiftly and inexorably toward something terrible or tricky or tremendous.
What really happened?Someone knows.Someone is lying.

***I won an ARC of this book from a giveaway. This does not change the way I view this book.***

Before reading Wink Poppy Midnight, I didn't know much about the story. I saw a lot of buzz around the book on Twitter, which made me really excited when I won an ARC (Advanced Reader Copy) from Erin on Instagram. This was my first book by April Genevieve Tucholke and it will not be my last.

While I was reading Wink Poppy Midnight I kept thinking, "What is happening? What am I reading?". And even after I finished reading, I wasn't quite sure my thoughts. Overall, I did like reading Wink Poppy Midnight
  • My favorite thing about Wink Poppy Midnight is the writing. I think April Genevieve Tucholke's writing is beautiful.
  • I found the mystery to be very interesting. I wasn't sure what was going on the whole time. Which made this a fun book to read. I was completely unsure by what was happening.
  • This was a pretty quick read. Yeah, I still read it over the span of a couple days. But I think the story progressed at a good pace. I felt like every time I read part of the story, I read a lot.
  • I didn't really like the characters very much. I think they are well written. They each have their own voice, so they didn't blend together. And I think they are also well developed. I just didn't really like them. But as I read, I started to think maybe that is how it is supposed to be. I cared about what was going to happen to them, but I didn't really like them.
My Recommendation:

Wink Poppy Midnight is a bit different than what I usually read. But I did find the story to be interesting and unique. It is well written. And I think the writing style is beautiful. I found the mystery to be interesting and I loved not knowing what was happening. But I didn't like the characters that much. Overall, I enjoyed reading Wink Poppy Midnight. So I recommend checking it out.
