Armchair BEA
I am a bit late posting my Armchair BEA post today, my daughter had her award ceremony at school this morning. I can't believe she is almost done with 1st grade. I am one proud Mom.
Expanding Blogging Horizons
What do you think about when you think about going beyond
blogging or expanding your horizons? Is it a redesign of your blog? Have you
branched out into freelance writing or even published a novel of your very own?
Or, have you moved into a different venue like podcasts or vlogging? This is
the day to tell us about how you have expanded on blogging in your own unique
way.
I have been blogging for less than a year, but I do have some thoughts on wanting to expand my blogging horizons.
I want to have a few more posts about movies, TV shows, and games. I mostly focus on books. (Which I love).
I also really want to come up with a Feature for my blog that is original. I have had a few ideas but I haven't expanded on them for fear that someone else is already doing it. I don't want to step on any toes. And I definitely don't want to make anyone mad. So I have held off on those ideas (even though there are a couple that I really love).
I have also have been thinking about vlogging. But I keep thinking there are so many vlogs about books already so I am trying to think of a cool thing to do to make mine different.
But unfortunately I haven't been able to come up with any ideas. I feel like I am creatively blocked. The only thing that passed my mind was making finger puppets for books, but that is VERY time consuming. And I don't think I have the time between my family, reading, reviewing, blogging, and everything else.
I sympathise with you - I was looking for something original for my blog also but every time I thought I had it nailed, I'd find that another blogger had already been doing it. I guess it's very hard to be completely original isn't it. Maybe it;s not the idea itself, but how you execute it that would be the differentiating factor??
ReplyDeleteI agree. It is VERY hard to be completely original. It seems like most things are taken from different ideas and mixed together. Thank you for the idea and for stopping by my blog! :D
DeleteA lot of people brought up the vlogging thing today. I just sighed because the blogging part already takes a huge chunk of time when you add in the Twitter schmoozing and Facebook sister page. I wonder how successful a vlog could be if it was only done once a month? Someone told me I needed a theme for my blog, but I thought books were my theme. Do you know what she could have meant? :)
ReplyDeleteI agree. I am not sure that I will start a vlog, but I do know what you mean about blogging already taking up a huge chunk of time. If I did do one, and had an awesome idea for what it would be about, I would try to do it once a week or something like that.
DeleteI am not sure what she could have meant, I don't really have a theme, I read and review for mostly YA and Children's books, but I also like to write about movies, TV shows, and games...so I guess I don't really have a theme. Wish I could be more help.
I followed with both Bloglovin and Google friends. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you! I followed you too. :D
DeleteI would say go ahead and do your features - if you do some Google searches and don't find anything spot on, then it sounds good! I love it when people do features or discussion posts along with their reviews.
ReplyDeleteThanks Emily! I did do some Google searches, but I just keep thinking I will miss something, then someone will come yell about me stealing their idea.
DeleteI thought about Vlogging as well, but it would be very time consuming. When I visit book blogs, I find myself slightly annoyed by reviews for other things, but I read and review middle grade literature because I'm a school librarian. I see you have reviews up for Hale's Dangerous as well as Sarah Dessen- I wish I could visit more adult blogs that occasionally review MG, but I'd be in the computer all day long!
ReplyDeleteI definitely agree about thinking that vlogging would be time consuming. I think that is the main thing that is holding me back from possibly doing it.
DeleteThank you for stopping by my blog!
Congratulations to you and your daughter!
ReplyDeleteI keep thinking about vlogging as well but worry about how much time it would take.
Thank you! I am so proud of her, and all the awards she got. She is one of the top readers in her class, and it just fills my heart to see her love books as much as I do.
DeleteI do think that vlogging would take up a lot of time, especially since blogging already takes up a lot.
Thank you so much for stopping by!
I'm with you on thinking up a feature. The one I've been considering is to focus on reviews of books that lots of other people have missed. Maybe someday!
ReplyDeleteHope you are having a great time with Armchair BEA!
I think that feature sounds wonderful! There are SO many books, so the ones that don't get recognized as much definitely deserve to be featured and reviewed too. Hidden gems.
DeleteI am having a great time with Armchair BEA, I am so glad that I participated.
I hope you are as well!
Thank you for stopping by!
