Top Ten Tuesday #44: Ten Things I Like/Dislike/Want More Of When It Comes to Romances

Top Ten Tuesday hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Their blog can be found here.

February 10: Top Ten Things I Like/Dislike When It Comes To Romances In Books (can do a full list or split it up in likes/dislikes or even things you want to see MORE of in romances in fiction)

I found this topic to be a bit hard for me to come up with what all I like. I am pretty easy going when it comes to romance and relationships in books/tv/movies. So hopefully I thought up of the right things

Likes:

1. Banter- I love when the couple have the quick wit conversations with each other. I tend to find it fun and adorable.

2. Slow Burn- The longing and waiting for the couple to get together. I just really like the satisfaction of when they do finally get together.

3. The First Kiss- There is just something about the first kiss that I just love!

4. Friends First- I love when the characters are really good friends first. It is just so cute when they realize how they feel about each other. And I feel like friendship is a good base for a relationship.

5. Passion and Chemistry- I love when the characters have that passion and chemistry between them. The swoony romance. One that is easy to ship and love!

6. Fake Relationship- For some reason, I really enjoy the fake relationship that leads to a real relationship and feelings. I find them to be cute and fun.

Dislikes:

7. Cheating- I really don't like cheating. I don't like when it happens in books or life. I understand it happens, and I have even liked a couple books in the past that included this, but it does take away from how much I will like the story and the characters themselves.

8. Lack of Communication- Sometimes the lack of communication and the problems that are caused by it, frustrates me.

9. Unbelievable Insta-Love- I do believe that love at first sight happens. And most of the time I don't mind if there is some Insta-Love in the story. But there are other times where it just doesn't feel right or believable.

More of:

10. Established Relationships- I do enjoy the characters meeting and seeing them get to know each other, but I would also enjoy reading more books where the couple is already in a relationship.

***Oh! I also REALLY LIKE Second Chance Romances. :D

How about you? What things do you love/hate/want more of when it comes to romances?

  4. I completely agree with all this! I LOVE banter and chemistry between characters, it's one of my favourite things to read about. Add in a slow burn romance, and I'm super happy :) Great list!

  6. I normally don't read many romance books, but you listed a lot of good parts to them. I'm also not a fan of that "instantaneous-love-at-first-sight" thing--must be believable for me to like it. I totally agree with you on all of these points ^.^
